Difference Between Siberian and Bengal Tigers

Siberian vs Bengal Tigers

Tigers are fascinating creatures. They are the largest among the four big cats, include the lion, the jaguar, and the leopard. Aside from their size, they are very strong and are distinguishable through their pattern of dark vertical stripes on a near-white to reddish-orange fur.

They can reach up to 11 feet in length and the weight of 300 kilograms. They have long canines that they use to rip their prey apart which can be as long as 4 inches. Tigers are native to Eastern and Southern Asia.

The two most popular subspecies are:

Siberian Tiger, which is also known as Amur, Manchurian, Altaic, Korean, or North China tiger. It is the largest tiger subspecies and can be found only in the protected region of Amur-Ussuri, Primorsky Krai and Khabarovsk Krai in eastern Siberia.

Bengal Tiger, which is also known as the Royal Bengal Tiger and is native to India and Bangladesh. It is the most numerous tiger subspecies but their number is slowly dwindling and efforts are being made to protect them against extinction.

The Siberian and Bengal tiger subspecies may still exist in our world today but both are believed to become extinct if efforts to protect them fail. Although they look the same and have similar characteristics, they do have differences.

Siberian tigers have very thick coats of pale golden stripes. They are taller at the shoulder than Bengal tigers which have thinner yellow to light orange coats and have a mutated species, the white Bengal Tiger. White tigers have stripes on white background coats but some have coats that are entirely white. Black Bengal tigers can also be found although reports of totally black tigers are not proven.
