Difference Between MacBook Pro and MacBook Air

MacBook Pro vs MacBook Air

The MacBook is Apple’s suite of laptop computers that also run their OS X operating system. Currently, there are two distinct lines, the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. The main difference between the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air is their emphasis on the different aspects of mobile computing. The MacBook Pro is a more traditional laptop that emphasizes performance and ample storage. In contrast, the MacBook Air’s main concern is portability, thus focusing on minimizing its size as well as its weight.

As you would already expect, the MacBook Air is significantly thinner and lighter than the MacBook Pro. This is also reflected in the model choices. The MacBook Air comes in two models, an 11-inch and 13-inch model, while the MacBook Pro has three choices; 13 inches, 15 inches, and 17 inches. So if you want the viewing comfort of a bigger screen, the MacBook Pro is your only choice.

Another notable difference between the MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air is their drives. The MacBook Air is only available with SSDs (Solid State Drives) while the MacBook Pro comes with the common, hard drive but can also be upgraded to an SSD if the buyer wants to. An SSD is superior to an HDD because it provides much faster read and write speeds, consumes less power, and does not produce any sound. The downside to SSDs is its low capacity and very high cost. While the MacBook Air SSD only has capacities of 64GB or 128GB, the MacBook Pros have 320GB, 500GB, and 750GB capacities.

Lastly, the MacBook Pro has a DVD drive which you can use to back up data or watch movies. The MacBook Air doesn’t have an internal drive. So if you want to do any of the above, you need to purchase a separate, external, DVD drive. This just adds to the cost of the laptop and is a bit more bulky to carry around. It is best to have the external drive left at home except when you really need it.

Summary:

1.The MacBook Pro emphasizes performance while the MacBook Air emphasizes portability.
2.The MacBook Pro come in bigger sizes than the MacBook Air.
3.The MacBook Air only uses SSDs while the MacBook Pro comes with an HDD as standard.
4.The MacBook Pro has a DVD drive while the MacBook Air doesn’t.
