A processed cheese, American cheese, may come in yellow, orange or white colors and have a mild flavor. On the other hand, Swiss cheese is related to a variety of cheese found in New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the US and that resembles Swiss Emmental. Moreover, coming to the health aspect, the Swiss cheese is healthier than the American cheese. This is because Swiss cheese is not processed as like the American cheese.

Another noticeable difference between American and Swiss cheese is that the later ones come with holes. The holes in Swiss cheese are formed because of the development of air pockets as the cheese ripens.

When comparing the texture, the American cheese has a smooth texture than that of the Swiss cheese. The Swiss cheese comes in semi-soft texture.
