Difference Between Active Duty and Reserve
Active duty and reserve duty are terms that are generally associated with defence. The two terminologies give the difference ‘“ one is reserve and the other is permanent or active.
Persons in active duty are full timers and are committed to serve the force for a specific period of time. On the other hand, soldiers on reserve are not full timers and they do not have any bondage of committed service. The soldiers on reserve duty may only comprise a weekend’s duty a month or two weeks during the summer. The reserve people may also be called for duty for more days.
When talking of the training, soldiers chosen for active duty have to undergo lengthy trainings. They may have to undergo several months of training before they are observed into the force. On the contrary, the persons who are taken for reserve duty have to undergo limited training only. The governments do not want to spend more on training the persons on reserve duty.
When someone is on active duty, he or she is part of the force. One should have to get up early morning, go for PT, go to work and after these, go back to the barracks. When one is on reserve duty, there is no worry of getting up in the mornings and doing PT and then going back to the barracks.
When a person is enrolled in the active duty category, he or she is entitled to get full payment, leave and other benefits as per the service rules. The persons who are on reserve duty do not have these benefits. They are only paid for the days of their service.
At times of war, it is the persons on active duty who are deployed first. The persons on reserve duty are deployed only after the deployment of all the persons on active duty.
