What is Synchronous Learning?
In synchronous learning, the learner and the instructor are in the same place at the same time. It is similar to a face to face class. It has become popular because it helps to minimize the challenges in online education. One example of synchronous learning is when students and instructor participating in a class via a web conferencing tool. It creates a virtual classroom that allows students ask questions and the teachers to answer them instantly.

Overall, synchronous learning allows students and teachers to participate and learn in real time and to involve in live discussions. As the students are in different time zones, it might be difficult to organize a synchronize session comfortable for each student. Therefore, it is one drawback of synchronous learning.
What is Asynchronous Learning?
Asynchronous learning is a self-study approach with asynchronous interactions to promote learning. Emails, online discussion boards, Wikipedia, and blogs are resources that support asynchronous learning. Some common asynchronous learning activities are interacting with course management systems such as Blackboard, Moodle for coursework delivering, communicating using email, posting in discussion forums and reading articles. Furthermore, it is important to maintain timely feedbacks and clear communication to engage students in learning.
Overall, asynchronous learning provides advantages such as convenience, flexibility, more interaction and to continue with the personal and professional life responsibilities.
