Difference Between Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos and Blackberry Bold 9900

There is a certain demand for smartphones with QWERTY keypads among business executives. This is based on the concept that one can type faster using a hard QWERTY keyboard than a virtual keyboard, and feel of key been pressed plays a role in deciding that, as well. I don’t agree with the first reasoning because once you get used to it, there are such awesome virtual keypads in the smartphone markets that lets you type twice faster like Swype. How cool is that if you can draw words instead of typing them all in eh? But the latter one I have to agree, it just doesn’t feel like you’re pressing a key, but hey, the haptic feedback almost all the virtual keypads provide compensates the tactile response. In any case, smartphone vendors have dedicated the hard QWERTY type handhelds to business professionals.

So here, we are going to focus on business professionals and two smartphones they can utilize to make their lives easier. Blackberry is well renowned for business phones and probably the leader in that niche market. They of course always used QWERTY keyboards in their phones, and Blackberry Bold 9900 is apparently a QWERTY candy-bar type handset with a touchscreen interface, which is a nice addition. The leading smartphone provider, Samsung, has also come up with Galaxy Y Pro Duos, which runs on android, to make it more competitive has a touchscreen with hard QWERTY key pad. Let’s get into details of the business handsets and find out the differences that make them worth the investment.

Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos

If you guessed that this handset must have dual SIM capability, you were correct. As the name suggest, it comes with the capability to handle two networks including HSDPA connectivity, which does good sound in a single slate. It is 110.8mm of height and 63.5mm of width with 11.9mm thickness and 112.3g weight. It comes in Black and features a neat laydown, but if you want expensive and elegant looks, behold Galaxy Y Pro Duos don’t come with that.

It has a 2.6 inches TFT capacitive touchscreen with 256K colors with a resolution of 400 x 240 pixels and 179ppi pixel density. It certainly doesn’t count for a state of the art panel or a great resolution, but nonetheless, one can use it well. The optical track pad is a nice addition as well following the paths of Blackberry. We don’t have information about the processor of this device, but we are told that it comes with 384MB of RAM and from that, we can deduce that it would have a processor ranging from 600-800MHz. The handset runs on Android OS v2.3 Gingerbread, which is good, but we have doubts on the exact processing power the device has to handle the operating system.

Galaxy Y Pro Duos comes with HSDPA connectivity and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n for continuous connectivity. It also has the ability to act as a wi-fi hotspot, which is an added advantage for business professionals. The camera is not of professional attire, but sufficient for casual uses of business professionals it seems. It has a 1350mAh battery, but the battery usage information is not provided. We can deduce that it will approximate about 8-9 hours compared to the alternatives of the same caliber produced by Samsung.

Blackberry Bold 9900

We’ve mentioned a fact before that Blackberry is renowned as a business handset, and this is largely because of the data security it provides. Most of the world political leaders use Blackberry due to this reason. All the information is rerouted through RIM servers for superior sense of security with AES or triple DES encryption with Blackberry dedicated server. In layman’s terms, your information is heavily safeguarded and even if they were to go into wrong hands, the encryption is too hard to break in a lifetime, so if you’re in highly sensitive information business, look no further for Blackberry is your ultimate solution. It doesn’t mean that you can’t use any other smartphone to handle highly sensitive information, but you’ll have to go into a set of configurations and operate a dedicated server for that.

Bold 9900 comes with 1.2GHz QC 8655 processor and 768MB RAM with Blackberry OS 7.0. It’s a competitive smartphone OS that performs well for optimized Blackberry Handsets. It features 5MP camera with LED flash and image stabilization that can capture 720p HD videos. The camera also has geo tagging with Assisted GPS and Blackberry Maps. The common platform is java applications specifically developed for Blackberry handsets, and there’s a good store out there full of apps. Bold comes with HSDPA connectivity and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n for continuous connectivity, as well.

Blackberry claims that it’s the thinnest Blackberry up to date which counts for a thickness of 10.5mm. It’s 115mm of height and 66mm of width with a weight of 130g. This falls a bit on the hefty side, but hey, nothing a business professional can’t handle. The 2.8 inches TFT capacitive touchscreen is a good addition with 16M colors featuring a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels and 286ppi pixel density. The optical touchpad included in the QWERTY key pad is unique to the Blackberry handsets and is a comfortable navigation option. The 1230mAh battery promises a talk time of 6 hours and 30 minutes which seems somewhat below the margin.
