Motorola Atrix 4G and Samsung Galaxy S2 (Galaxy S II) are two high end phones introduced in 2011. Both belong to the dual core generation with 1GHz dual core CPUs and multi core GPUs, which are much faster than the previous generation phones and deliver better graphic performance offering excellent 3D gaming experience. Motorola Atrix 4G uses Nividia Tegra 2 SoC while Samsung uses Exynos 4210 SoC both have ARM Cortex A9 CPU but Nvidia uses its own GeForce GT GPU and Samsung Exynos uses ARM Mali-400MP GPU. Samsung Galaxy S2 display is a huge 4.3 inches WVGA (800×480 pixels) and utilize super AMOLED plus technology which consume less battery power and the display is very bright with vibrant colors and clear even in bright sun light. Motorola Atrix 4G has got 4″ PenTile LCD with a qHD resolution of 960×540 pixels, that produce sharper images. The camera in Galaxy S2 is more powerful (8MP with 1080p HD video recorder) than that in Atrix 4G (5MP 720p HD video recorder). On the design side, Galaxy S2 is extremely thin and light measuring only 8.49mm and 116grams while it’s 10.95mm and 135grams in Atrix 4G. Coming to the software side, though both are Android based phones Motorola Atrix 4G runs Android 2.2.1 (Froyo) with Motoblur for UI and Samsung Galaxy S2 runs Android 2.3.x (Gingerbread) with the new personalized UI TouchWiz 4.0 that has magazine style live panels to directly access the content instead of application widgets. The contents used most by the user will be selected and displayed on the main screen. The UI is fully optimized for Android Gingerbread. Motorola Atrix 4G’s special features are the webtop technology which is used with an optional dock to get the PC like experience on a large screen with Firefox browser and the Fingerprint recognition technology for added security. The special features of Galaxy S2 are the personalized UX, full HD video recording and playback, Wi-Fi direct (connects without a wireless access point), Samsung voice solution to control the device with selected words and the NFC (Near Field Communication) that supports existing smartcards, readers and contactless infrastructure.
Motorola Atrix 4G
The powerful Android smartphone from Motorola Atrix 4G is packed with excellent features and gives a benchmark performance. The 4″ qHD capacitive touch screen display that supports 960x 540 pixels resolution and 24-bit color depth produces a real sharp and crispy pictures on the screen. The Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset (built with 1 GHz dual core ARM Cortex A9 CPU and GeForce GT GPU) with 1 GB RAM and a very responsive display makes mulitasking smooth and gives a better browsing and gaming experience. Motorola Atrix 4G runs Android 2.2.x with Motoblur for UI and the Android WebKit browser supports full Adobe flash player 10.1 to allow all the graphics, text and animations on the web.
The unique feature of Atrix 4G is the webtop techology and the fingerprint scanner. Motorola introduced the Webtop technology with Atrix 4G that replaces a laptop. All you need to enjoy the power of mobile computing is the laptop dock and the software (which you have to purchase separately). The 11.5 inch laptop dock with full physical keyboard is built in with Mozila firefox browser and adobe flash player that allows a fast, seemless browsing in a large screen. It will also mirror your phone content on the large screen.
For connectivity you have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and HSPA+ network that theoretically can connect you up to 21 Mbps speed, but in practice it connects up to 5 – 7 Mbps on downlink. The fingerprint scanner combined with the power button at the top center back of the gadget gives an added security, you can enable the feature by going in to the set up and input your finger print with pin number.
The other features include 5 megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash and capapbility of HD video recording at [email protected], front VGA camera (640×480 pixels) for video calling, internal memory of 16GB that can be expanded to 32GB using a memory card, HDMI port, microUSB port (HDMI cable and USB cable are included to the package). Video recording and play can increase to 1080p with OS upgrade to Android 2.3 or more. The battery life is quite impressive, rated as 9 hours talktime.
Samsung Galaxy S2 (Galaxy S II, Model GT-i9100)
Galaxy S2 (or Galaxy S II) is the slimmest phone to date, measuring only 8.49 mm. It’s faster and gives better viewing experience than its predecessor Galaxy S. Android 2.3 has many new features compared o its previous version Android 2.2. The super AMOLED plus display is highly responsive and has a better viewing angle than its predecessor. Samsung also introduces a new personalizable UX (TouchWiz 4.0) on Galaxy S2 which has a magazine style layout that selects the contents used most and displays on the homescreen. The live contents can be personalized. The UI is also fully optimized for Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and you get seamless browsing experience with Adobe Flash Player 10.2.
The additonal applications include Kies 2.0, Kies Air, AllShare, Voice Recognition & Voice Translation, NFC (Near Field Communication) and the native Social, Music and Games hub from Samsung. Game hub offers 12 social network games and 13 premium games including Gameloft’s Let Golf 2 and Real Football 2011.
