There is no doubt that the classic lemonade as invented in France contains only water and sugar in lemon juice. Inside US too, lemonade served inside restaurants and social gatherings contains these three ingredients with an added fourth ingredient as lemon slice forced through the edge at the top of the glass. When made in homes, lemonade is always pale yellow because of the presence of lemon juice.

Lemonade drinks available in the market are mostly carbonated to have a fizz and may not contain any lemon juice at all. In fact, to have lemonade that contains lemon juice, one would need to ask for lemon crush instead of these clear drinks that contain lemon flavor.

Pink Lemonade

In US markets, there is available not just classic lemonade that is pale yellow in color but also lemonade that is pink in color. These pink colored lemonades may contain extracts of fruits like raspberries, cranberries, strawberries, grapes, and even permitted food colors. Henry Allot Sanchez is the man who is credited to have introduced this colored drink in the American markets. He is believed to have accidentally dropped some cinnamon candies inside a tub of yellow lemonade.
