LinkedIn and FaceBook are two of the very popular social networking sites (SNS) that have millions of members and work along same lines. There are various social networking sites on the net that provide a platform for people to become a member and start interacting with other members of the site. Whether it is your own friends or new people, you can share views, opinions and information depending upon your interest and likes and dislikes. LinkedIn and FaceBook are two such social networking sites (SNS). People are confused as to which one they should join as there are differences between the two and one should join depending upon his purpose and requirements.
Anyone who joins a SNS has to make his profile which is seen by others on the site and people communicate depending upon this profile. FaceBook is more of a socializing site which has many more members than LinkedIn. Members on FaceBook are more into making new friends and developing new relationships. On the other hand, LinkedIn goes beyond casual relationships and is more of a business community where professionals interact with each other. It is a site that is used more for looking employees, making deals, and knowing about different professions. This basic difference means users of LinkedIn are more mature than those on FaceBook where teenagers dominate the site.
You will find that LinkedIn is used by companies and there are many profiles that are of companies rather than individuals. Individuals read these profiles and get to know about the companies. On the other hand, users of FaceBook are more concerned about personal relationships and the interactions are more of a casual nature and members usually have fun while interacting.
There are both free as well as paid membership accounts on LinkedIn whereas FaceBook does not have this feature.
In brief: • FaceBook is youth dominated whereas LinkedIn has more members in the age group of 40+ • FaceBook is all about making friends and developing personal relationships whereas LinkedIn is a platform to post information about companies and to look for professional opportunities • There is a question and answer feature on LinkedIn which is not there on FaceBook • There are both free and paid accounts on LinkedIn while FaceBook is free to use
