Sexual and asexual are terms more commonly referring to the sexuality, or lack thereof, of a person. Sexuality is majorly concerned with the way a person takes in sexual experience and expresses themselves accordingly. Asexuality is mainly the lack of interest with anything regarding sex.
Sexual
Sexual is defined as anything related or that involves sex and the reproduction of an organism through the coming together of male and female. As anything and everything related to sex, this would include our sexual orientation and our sexual activities. This includes the choice of partners a person is attracted to, be it heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual. Sexual is also related to the way we reproduce. The need for the union of the male and female sex organs defines sexual reproduction.
Asexual
Asexual, as defined, is the lack of interest with regards to sex, or having no evident sex organs, while still capable of reproduction. Talking about the first definition, there are some people that don’t have any desire for or interest in sex. It is different from abstaining from sex and celibacy as they are behavioral while asexuality is kind of a sexual orientation that is long-term. With regards to the second definition, asexual reproduction is one of the ways some organisms reproduce through binary fission or budding.
Difference between Sexual and Asexual
Obviously, sexual and asexual are different in so many ways. One area is the interest in sex. Most organisms are sexual beings. That is the way we reproduce. We need to have sex in order to ensure the continuance of our species; therefore it is safe to say that by default we are sexual. Asexual organisms can be considered the exception to that rule, although asexual organisms can have sex and sometimes will have sex, but they are not necessarily interested in nor desire to do it. Sexual and asexual reproduction are the two ways an organism can reproduce. The former needs sex organs, the latter does not.
Sexual and asexual are terms that concern not only the organism’s desire for sex but also the way they ensure the survival of their species.
In brief: • Sexual is defined as anything that relates to or involves sex and the way organisms reproduce by the union of male and female organs. • Asexual is defined as the lack of interest with all matters regarding sex as well as the ability of certain organisms to reproduce without any physical organs.
