Difference Between Love and Romance

Love and romance are the stuff of novellas and other literature. They are also interconnected with each other that sometimes it is difficult to experience love without experiencing romance. However, it should be known that experiences of romance does not necessarily lead to love.

Love

Love is a strong emotion that expresses affection and emotional attachment. Philosophically, human kindness, compassion and affection are all represented by love. Love is experienced by everybody at some point in their lives. Love exists in different ways, like love for family, friends, significant others, even pets. It is hard to really define love and is usually more understood by what it is not rather than by what it is.

Romance

Romance, on the other hand, is the course of action we take in order to bond with the person of our affection, especially with the person we ‘love’. It can also be considered as the pleasant feeling of exhilaration and the unknown we associate with love. It is mostly an expression of how much one loves the other and is usually showed in gestures such as gifting. Romance originated with the idea of chivalry; as such most women feel that a man is more romantic if he posses the qualities of a chivalrous being.

Difference between Love and Romance

Love and romance go hand to hand. Usually, before your significant other believes your love for him or her, you have to set out to prove that love. This is usually done through gestures that would be deemed romantic: flowers, champagne, candlelight dinner, etc. In a nutshell, you can think of love as a connection between two people and romance is the reinforcement of that connection. However, actions can sometimes be misleading and easily misunderstood. There are no social conventions that dictate what is romantic and what is not. As such, it is imperative to take extra care when interpreting the actions of an individual.

Love and romance are two things that will be and should be experienced by everybody at some point in their lives. A life without love and romance would be empty.

In brief:

• Love is an emotion that is expressed by a powerful affection and personal attachment to someone.

• Romance is the series of actions we do to cement that feeling of love and to bond with the person of our affections.
