He does well to look for infections or defects in the reproductive system of women. Sometimes he will diagnose for ailments of the reproductive system in the women.

On the other hand an obstetrician checks the positioning of the womb of a pregnant woman. He or she ascertains the carriage or the miscarriage part of pregnancy with great care. An obstetrician often takes care of the successful delivery of the child and the well being of the womb during pregnancy. He checks whether a cesarean delivery is required or the pregnant woman can go for normal vaginal delivery.

An obstetrician conducts tests that surround the well-being of the womb of the pregnant woman. These tests include various scans that can find out the position of the baby in the womb, the position of the fallopian tube in the womb and the like. It is often seen that a gynecologist refers his cases to an obstetrician particularly during the time of developed and advanced pregnancy.

In other words it can be said that a gynecologist takes care of the initial stages of pregnancy when the woman approaches him or her. On the contrary the advanced stages of pregnancy will be examined by an obstetrician.
