Difference Between Shrooms and Acid

Shrooms vs Acid

Shrooms and Acids are addictive psychedelic drugs. Both of these have hallucinogenic effects. A hallucinogen causes hallucinations, which means seeing images, hearing sounds, feeling certain sensations that actually do not exist in real. Hallucinogens produce sudden and unpredictable changes in the users. These may sound interesting, and arouse your curiosity but the most important thing is that you get the facts right and know the dangers of illicit drugs. Both the drugs come from fungi origins, but there are many differences between shrooms and acid.

What are Shrooms?

Mushrooms contain various chemicals. Some are antimicrobial, and some have medicinal value. Shrooms are a group of mushrooms that are used as psychedelic drugs. These are also known as magic mushrooms. These mushrooms contain hallucinogenic compounds such as psilocybin, psilocin, and baeocystin. These are nontoxic mushrooms but due to the hallucinogenic effect they are not included in the edible mushrooms category.

The effects of shrooms are like any hallucinogen. If a person takes shrooms, it will intensify the thoughts/feelings; a good mood may become better and a bad mood may worsen. In mild dosages, these may cause giddiness, anxiety and also make the color look more vibrant. In high dosages, these may cause extreme laughter, color changing, distortion of senses, extreme paranoia etc.

What is Acid?

Acid is a street name for LSD (Lysergic acid). It is one of the most potent mood changing chemicals. Lysergic acid is extracted from ergot fungus that grows on rye and other grains. It is produced in a crystal form and converted to odorless, colorless, bitter liquid for illegal distribution. There are many forms available in the streets such as small tablets (microdots), capsules or gelatin squares (window panes), and also added into absorbent paper (stickers).

Physical effects of acid are dilated pupils, high body temperature, sweating or chills, tremors, dry mouth, sleeplessness etc. among many mental effects delusions, distortion of senses, impaired perception, severe terrifying thoughts, panic attacks, flashbacks or recurrence of LSD trip and severe depression are the main effects. Acid is addictive because it accumulates in the body and users develop tolerance to the drug wanting more and more to achieve “high”. Due to the perception impairment an acid user may look irrational, inappropriate in actions. Sometimes it can go into the destructive level where they get an urge for killing or become suicidal.

Shrooms vs. Acid

• Shrooms and acid both have fungi origin, but they come from different mushrooms. Shrooms are a whole mushroom used as a psychedelic drug and acid is a hallucinogen extracted from fungus – ergot.

• Shrooms and acid contain different hallucinogenic chemicals. Shrooms contain psilocybin, psilocin, and baeocystin, and acid contains lysergic acid.

• There is a very high potency difference between shrooms and acid. Acid is more potent than the shrooms due to the high concentration and strong hallucinogen it contains. It is found that acid is 100 times more potent than shrooms.
