Amazon joined the Indian market in 2012, competing with Flipkart and Snapdeal. It is among the top five firms in the United States’ information technology sector. 

Flipkart is a Singapore-based e-commerce company. The firm was founded in 2007 by Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal. The headquarters of the corporation are in Bangalore, Karnataka. Initially, an online bookselling company, the company later expanded into selling a variety of other things such as electronics, apparel, home essentials, consumables, and lifestyle.

What is Amazon? 

Jeff Bezos founded this e-commerce platform in Seattle, Washington, in 1994. It began as an online bookstore and has since grown to become the world’s largest internet firm by revenue as well as the world’s most valuable public company. Amazon is right now the world’s largest e-commerce corporation and the most valuable company.  

The firm began as an online bookseller, but it has since grown significantly and also sells technology, video games, clothing, housing, food, jewelry, and food are just a few examples and many other items. 

Amazon owns around 40 subsidiaries from which people can choose based on their needs and requirements. It also manages a publication forum known as Amazon Publishing, a motion picture studio known as Amazon Studios, and a cloud services firm known as Amazon Web Series. Amazon also manufactures consumer gadgets such as the Kindle, the Fire Tablet, the Fire TV, and the Echo devices. 

Amazon has a special retail website for a few countries and frequently offers international shipping on a few of its products. In 2008, 615 million users visited the Amazon website annually; however, in 2016, 130 million users only accessed the Amazon website in the United States each month. Amazon has spent a significant amount of money on server capacity for its website, as there is frequently too much traffic, causing the server to crash. 

It debuted its Indian operations through Junglee.com, a website that allowed Indian shops to display their products for free to millions of Indian buyers and provide targeted traffic to their businesses.  

Amazon has also introduced its own products, such as the Kindle. It has recently made headlines for investing in the development of drones, which are expected to handle the delivery for them. 

What is Flipkart? 

Binny and Sachin Bansal created this e-commerce firm in 2007. It is headquartered in India and was previously entirely focused on merchandise sales. It soon expanded into other product categories, including technology, leisure, and clothing. Among the affiliates are PhonePe, a mobile payments company, Myntra, Ekart, and Jabong.com. 

Flipkart held 39.5 percent of the market share in India’s e-commerce industry in March 2017. Flipkart has a stronger foothold in the garment category, providing sibling competitor Myntra stiff competition. Walmart, a U.S.-based retail business, owned 81 percent of Flipkart as of August 2018. Walmart, which is worth $20 billion, paid $16 billion for the holdings. 

Myntra, Jabong.com, Phonepe, Ekart, and 2gud are some of Flipkart’s subsidiaries that users can enjoy depending on their preferences. Flipkart is an Indian corporation that does not ship its products outside of the country. It is primarily located in India. 

Flipkart is an online internet commerce startup started in 2007 by Sachin and Binny Bansal. Its headquarters are in Bengaluru, India. A Singapore-based holding company owns the corporation, which is registered in Singapore.  

Regardless of the fact that the firm is based in Singapore, it sells items in India through a subsidiary called WS Retail since foreign corporations are not authorized to operate in multi-brand e-commerce in India. Flipkart has also launched its own brands, Digi Flip and Citron. 

Main Differences Between Amazon and Flipkart

Conclusion 

Flipkart and Amazon are two of India’s largest online retailers. Ecommerce has transformed the shopping experience, making it as simple as sitting on the couch and tapping on items to place them in the inventory. 

Both corporations are aggressively contending, with one unveiling an invention while the other continuing to follow through. Following Amazon’s entry into India, the business offered a ‘same-day delivery’ option, allowing consumers to pay a small amount to receive the merchandise the same day. Flipkart joined the bandwagon with a comparable offer.
