Amplifier Vs Receiver
Have you paid close attention on your behemoth home stereo? If not, then it may be time for you to know the entire system and understand its important sub components. The amplifier and the receiver are examples of which.
The amplifier, from the term itself, sort of amplifies or powers up a signal from audio sources like CD players whilst sustaining its frequency. This empowered audio signal stimulates the speakers which emit high power sounds. This is something that normal line level signal devices are not able to accomplish.
The receiver is like a compartment for organizing all the electronics in one single area. It is not just spread all over several boxes. It is also considered as the most basic part in all stereo systems. If you want to have the most basic parts of a stereo system, then you may think about getting a single receiver. This already combines the pre-amplifier, the radio tuner and amplifier.
What is the advantage or disadvantage of getting a separate amplifier? How about a receiver? Well, if you are very choosy with the individual parts of your system then go for the purchase of a separate amplifier, pre-amplifier and other subcomponents. The downside is, of course, the purchase of several components will end up costing you more. On the other hand, if you have a receiver that already has the complete package, you often get more ease in setting up the entire system as it is a lot easier to do so. You just have to think about the long term, whether it’s possible to repair the whole unit or not in case of malfunction. For even if just a single aspect of it got damaged, the sound quality may not be too great compared to having a separate amplifier.
Purchasing a separate amplifier, instead of an all-in-one receiver, is said to generate the best sound or entertainment performance. This style also offers greater flexibility in terms of making upgrades or repairs in the future. This set-up is also more appealing as it will give any person the ‘wow’ impression when looking at a stereo system composed of several pieces. Aside from the added expense, having these many units will end up requiring more space for them to place.
1. The receiver is an all-in-one unit that is composed of three distinct components which include the pre-amplifier, power amplifier and radio tuner.
2. The amplifier is the one that merges the power and pre-amplifier units into one system.
