Difference Between Ancova and Anova

ancova vs  anova

Ancova and anova are different analysis methods. It is a bit hard to find a difference between the two, as they are similar in many respects. Ancova and Anova come in different designs to make out the analysis.

Anova is the analysis of variance and Ancova is the analysis of covariance. Anova is mainly used to reveal the main and the interface effects of independent variables on dependent variables. The main effect has a direct effect on independent variables on dependent variables.

Anova model reveals the effect of interaction on a built in basis. In Anova, the key statistic is the F-test of the difference of group means. It tests if the group means formed by values of independent variable are different so much that it has not occurred by chance.

Annova model is calculated using the formula; BG variation attributed to IV divided by WG variation attributed to individual differences. Anocova model is calculated using the formula; BG variation attributed to IV

+ BG variation attributed to COV divided by WG variation attributed + WG variation attributed to individual differences to COV.

While Annova ignores covariate, Ancova considers covariate. When Annova features BG variation exclusively to the treatment, Anocova separates BG variation into COV and TX. While Annova features WG variation solely to individual differences, Ancova separates this variation into COV and individual differences.

When considering randomised studies, both Annova and Ancova methods are unbiased. However, ANCOVA is seen to have more power. If treatment task is based on baseline, ANCOVA is seen to be only unbiased.
