Android is one of the most popular mobile operating systems of present times and the Android Honeycomb 3.0 and its revision Honeycomb 3.1 are two of Google’s older operating systems. The Honeycomb versions were focused mainly on tablet users and did not support too many Android based smartphones. Let’s check out the main differences between these two versions of Google Android OS.

The first Android platform which was completely designed for Android tablet users and supported large screens is the Honeycomb 3.0. The 3.0 has a great user interface and offered up to 5 hoome screens which can be customized and the wallpapers can be changed. The widgets were optimized to fit perfectly on to the large screns. The keyboard of Android Honeycomb 3.0 was different than the Gingerbread version and the keys were reshaped and repositioned. Few new keys were also added. The web browser was improved and supported Adobe Flas Player 10.2. Different Google apps such as Gmail, Google Calender, Hangouts, Google Maps etc. were incorporated in the Honeycomb 3.0. There were a good number of tablet optimized apps including Gmail and teh camera app. The Google map supported 3D effect on the 3.0.

The Honeycom 3.1 is an improved version of the Android 3.0 and features a more intuitive and efficient user interface. The navigation between the 5 home screen as made smoother and home button was added in the system bar directing you to your most frequently used home screen. Multiple input devices, which could be connected using USB port has been added to the Android 3.1 and was not available on the Android 3.0. The 3.1 features an improved browser which also supports CSS 3D, CSS fixed positioning and animations along with embedded HTML5 video playback. Another improvement over the Honeycomb 3.0 is the page zoom performance, which greatly improves the web browsing experience. Although there is no big difference among these two tablet based operating system versions of Android, the Honeycomb 3.1 featured the best characters of the Honeycomb series with nearly all the bug-fixes of the Android 3.0. It can be said that the Android 3.1 paved the way for the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which is till date the most widely used Android operating system for both smartphone and tablets using the Android platform.

Key Differences between Android 3.0 and 3.1:

The Android 3.1 is a revision to the Android 3.0 and both are Android versions optimized for tablets.
The user interface on Android 3.1 has been developed compared to the 3.0.
The 3.1 features a refined UI and resizable home screen widgets, which were not available on the Android 3.0.
The 3.0 did not offer connectivity with USB devices such as external keyboards, mouse, gamepads or cameras, but the 3.01 does.
The browser application, gallery, calender and email applications on Android 3.1 are a lot more developed than that of Android 3.0.
Android 3.1 is compatible with Google TV, but Android 3.0 is not.
