Difference between Android 3.2 and 4.0

Android 3.2 vs Android 4.0

Android is currently the most popular mobile operating system competing successfully with the smartphone giant Apple. Sometimes the updates on Android software can be seriously prodigious and revolutionary. Let’s check out the basic differences between two of Android’s most popular versions – the Android Honeycomb 3.2 and the Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 to check how high the new addition has leaped above its predecessor.
Honeycomb 3.2 has an inordinate level of neat and clean interface. The animation and the transitions on the screen are extremely smooth and makes navigation a smarter experience. Larger displays have made way to split the screen and multitasking has never been easier. The Ice Cream Sandwich is also very smooth in its interface. However, it provides some more cosmetic tweaks to its icons and fonts design. You can enter the camera quickly from the lock screen icon. The camera app has been improved and the controls are better including a radial slider for the zoom function.

Both Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich allow scrolling a preview of the running tasks. In the Ice Cream Sandwich, folder creation has been introduced. But in case of Honeycomb OS, you’ll need a separate app for grouping the apps which are running. If you’re a lover of customizing your phone, Android 4.0 stands out compared to the 3.2 version. The 3.2 version was very complex and lacked simplicity. Ice Cream Sandwich has an interface which is similar to that of Gingerbread and allows simple customization allowing drag and drop function from the App and Widget Drawer to the home screen.

The most important thing about these two operating systems is that – Honeycomb is available only on tablets and not on smartphones. For smartphone users, Ice Cream Sandwich is a huge leap from Gingerbread. However, if you’re a tablet user, the upgrade won’t mean much to you. As to the customization options available on the Ice Cream Sandwich, it’s totally up to the choice of the individual user to decide whether he prefers the Android 4.0 over the smoothly functioning 3.2.

The new software from Android is definitely a worthy upgrade. But there is no reason for users to go out and buy a new device only because it supports Android 4.0. And Honeycomb users can wait till they get their hands on the Jellybean or KitKat operating systems running more advanced Android OS.

Key Differences between Android 3.2 and 4.0:

Android 4.0 has added better design to its icons and fonts than the Android 3.2.
There is a camera icon which can be accessed directly from the lock screen of 4.0, which is not available on the 3.2.
Android 4.0 allows creating folders for multiple apps, which needs a separate app in Android 3.2.
Android 4.0 has a better user interface featuring drag and drop function for apps and widgets from the drawer to the home screen. Android 3.2 had complex customization functions.
Android 4.0 is available for both smartphones and tablets. But Android 3.2 is available only for tablets.
