CBSE vs SSC
Most of the parents seeking admission for their children in India will look at the various syllabuses followed by the schools. Earlier, parents who had transferable jobs chose CBSE or ICSE, and the parents who did not shift from one place to another chose the state syllabus or the SSC.
CBSE, or the Central Board of Secondary Education, is an educational board under the government of India. SSC, or Secondary School Certificate, exams come under the state governments.
The National Council of Educational Research and Training sets the curriculum for the CBSE whereas it is the state education board that frames the curriculum for the SSC.
It has been said that the CBSE syllabus is far better than the SSC. The CBSE stresses concentric curriculum which means that the topics that are taught in a year will be the continuation of the previous year, or it can be said that the topics are built on top of the previous years. For example, the topics of force, pressure, and motion are included in the sixth standard; the topics of ideas of force and frictional force are included in the seventh and eighth standard. This concentric curriculum is not seen with SSC syllabuses which are generally content based.
Most of the parents prefer the CBSE as it is more helpful when taking competitive and entrance examinations. Unlike the SSC schools, the CBSE schools teach English in a functional way, and the teaching is more oriented for communication.
The SSC is managed by the respective state governments whereas the CBSE has eight regional offices located in New Delhi, Chennai, Guwuhati, Ajmer, Panchkula, Allahabad, Patna and Bhubaneswar.
