CCD vs CMOS
When looking for digital cameras, it is good to get acquainted with CCD or Charge Couple Device and CMOS or Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor. CCD and CMOS are chips used in digital cameras.
When comparing the two chips, CMOS is more flexible, as the pixels in this can be individually read. In a CCD digital chip, the charge is transported across it and read at a corner of the array. Here, an analogue to digital convertor converts each of the pixel’s values into digital value. In the case of CMOS chips, the transistors present at each of the pixels amplify and move charge using the traditional wires.
The charge stored in Charge Couple Devices are read through synchronous signals. In a Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor, the photoelectric sensors directly generate electronic signal, which makes the signals simple to read.
Where CMOS is susceptible to noise, CCD is known to create low noise images. Of the two digital chips, CMOS is known to consume less power than CCD. The CCD is known to consume 100 times more power than the CMOS.
Another difference seen between CCD and CMOS is that the latter one can be fabricated on any silicon production line. Because of this, CMOS sensors are cheaper than the CCD sensors.
The cameras having high quality pixels, good light sensitivity and high resolution will be equipped with CCD sensors. A camera having CCD sensors comes with high quality images.
