Clean Steel vs Stainless Steel
When you plan on buying steel appliances, like in the case of a home refrigerator, you may stumble upon choosing which type of steel fridge to pick. Are you going for the stainless steel appliance or the clean steel alternative?
Stainless steel appliances are very popular nowadays because these give your home a very tidy and formal-looking appearance. But you should nonetheless be mindful because this choice is not without some disadvantage(s) of its own.
Also referred to as “the stainless look,” clean steel appliances almost look the same as your standard stainless steel appliances. The good part is that it does not give you the same cons that ordinary stainless steel poses.
It’s pretty easy to identify one from the other. Stainless steel is not magnetic because it is genuinely made from pure stainless steel. Other appliances that are colored in off-white, oddly black, or white fashion are usually clean steel. These appliances are created using carbon steel and are given a laminated finish to make it look like your typical stainless steel appliance. This finish has one drawback, though. It leads to easy rusting if the surface has been scratched. If so, the contaminants can easily penetrate inside. For stainless steel, you don’t have to worry about rusting because the surface won’t rust over time even if it’s frequently scratched.
Being practically stainless, appliances that are made from pure stainless steel are easily tormented by fingerprints and other smudges. You need to use specific cleaning products like Orange Glo to revive the original stainless look. The absence of meticulous cleaning will just end up in the loss of the steel’s luster. On the contrary, clean steel appliances are more easily cleaned using ordinary home cleaning tools and detergents. You also need not worry much because the clean steel surface does not leave too many fingerprint marks. Nevertheless, even if stainless steel easily harbors fingerprints, it is not simply stained by dyes or foods making it a perfect choice for those who hate bacteria and germs.
Lastly, because of the nature of the material used in making stainless steel appliances, these end up costing as much as $500 more compared to clean steel appliances.
Summary:
- Stainless steel is not magnetic compared to clean steel.
- It is more difficult to clean stainless steel surfaces as you may be required to buy appropriate products to clean it compared to generic clean steel surfaces.
- Stainless steel surfaces (although less or not prone to rusting) easily harbor smudges and fingerprints compared to clean steel.
- Stainless steel appliances are more expensive than clean steel appliances.
