DVD5 vs DVD9
While advancements in technology have made computers a lot more reliable, and able to handle a variety of different activities, they are not always perfect. Nothing is more dreaded than the computer crashing and having all the stored files corrupted and lost. For this reason, many people still opt to store their personal and business files in various storage devices to make sure that, should this occur, they will still have a copy of these files.
One particular storage device used is the DVD. Apart from storing personal computer files, DVDs are also now used by Hollywood to market some of the much loved movies that have previously been shown in cinemas, for fans to continue enjoy watching at their own leisure. There are two common types of DVDs that are used today: The DVD5 and the DVD9. Since these two DVDs physically look very much alike, it can be rather difficult to tell the difference between the two.
Both the DVD5 and DVD9 are recognized, and can be used on standard DVD-ROMs and DVD Burners. The DVD5 is made out of a single layer where information can be stored. On the other hand, the DVD9 is a dual layer DVD. As such, the DVD9 can store twice the amount of information that a DVD5 can handle. It is possible to transfer information from a DVD9 to a DVD5, but because of the differences in their storage capacities, it is necessary for the information and data from the DVD9 to be first compressed with a software program.
Another difference between the DVD5 and the DVD9, is the price. The DVD5 is a lot cheaper compared to the DVD9. This being the case, more people that store personal and corporate information on DVDs use the DVD5.
On top of the fact that they are a lot cheaper, the DVD5 is also reusable when compared to the DVD9, making them more environmentally friendly. When burning a DVD5 to store information and data, you can use one that already has information and data stored on it, and make room for new information and data to be stored. This is not the case with the DVD9. Once the information is burned into the DVD9, it can no longer be erased, and the DVD9 can no longer be reused. While it is ideal for the distribution of movies, it can cause some harm towards the environment in the long run.
Summary:
1. The DVD9 handles more data and information because it is comprised of two layers, compared to the DVD5 which only contains one layer.
2. The DVD5 is a lot cheaper than the DVD9, making it more favored by people looking for a storage device.
3. The DVD5 can be reused when compared to the DVD9, where the information can no longer be edited once it is burned. This makes the DVD5 more efficient and friendly to the environment.
