Difference Between HTC Desire S and Samsung Galaxy Ace

HTC Desire S vs Samsung Galaxy Ace

The competition with Android phones is ongoing not only on the top end of the market but also near the bottom where buyers are more sensitive to pricing and want more bang for their buck. The Desire S from HTC and Galaxy Ace from Samsung both cater to this market. There are a number of differences between the Desire S and the Galaxy Ace and it starts with the screen size. The Desire S screen is slightly larger at 3.7 inches compared to the 3.5 inch screen of the Galaxy Ace.

When it comes to the camera, the two are equipped with sensors of the same 5 megapixel resolution. Photos may seem to be of similar quality but when it comes to videos, the Desire S has a clear advantage. The Desire S is capable of recording 720p video, which seems to be the bare minimum with most smartphones. In contrast, the Galaxy Ace can only record at QVGA resolution or 320×240. The Galaxy Ace also lacks a front facing camera, typically used for video calling. The VGA camera of the Desire S may not be much but it gets the job done.

The inability of the Galaxy Ace is attributable to the performance of the processor as it is responsible for processing each frame and blending it together into a video. The Galaxy Ace only has an 800Mhz processor coupled with the older MSM7227 chipset and Adreno 200 GPU. The Desire S improves just about every aspect with a 1Ghz processor, an MSM8255 chipset, and Adreno 205 GPU. The hardware on the Desire S may not compete with newer smartphones with dual core processors and superior GPUs.

Lastly, the internal memory of the Desire S is slightly more than the internal memory of the Galaxy Ace; with 1.1GB and 158MB respectively. The Galaxy Ace ships with a 2GB memory card, so that supplements the memory needs by a bit. Memory cards of 4GB or even more are quite easy and cheap to come by.
