Ichat vs Skype
To help people perform activities on a computer, computer programs such as application software are developed. Application software enables people to manage and carry out tasks such as; word processing, solving and developing scientific and mathematical problems and equations, and the creation of graphics and animation scripts.
There are many types of software applications that are being used. Information worker software which includes data management and documentation, content access and entertainment software, educational and media development software, and collaborative software are only a few of the several types of software applications available.
Collaborative software includes email, calendaring, bookmarking, text chat, and social software which include online dating services and social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, Ichat, and Skype.
Skype is application software founded in 2003 by Niklas Zennstrom and Dane Janus Friis and developed by Ahti Heinla, Priit Kasesalu, and Jaan Yalliin. It allows users to chat and make voice calls on the Internet.
Once registered to Skype, users can make calls, send instant messages, transfer files, and have video conferences with other Skype users. Skype-to-Skype calls are free, but calls to landlines and mobile phones are not. It can be accessed using Linux, android, Mac, PSP, desktops and laptops using Windows, iPhone and 50 other mobile phones, TV models from Samsung, Panasonic, and LG.
Ichat, on the other hand, is an instant messaging application software developed in 2002 by Apple, Inc for its Mac OS X operating system. It can be used with a MobileMe, Mac.com, AOL Instant Messenger, Google Talk, or Jabber accounts.
It features audio, video, text messaging, and screen sharing using Bonjour, an XMPP-like protocol for user discovery and LAN communication. It incorporates Apple’s Aqua Interface and uses speech bubbles and pictures for a personalized chatting experience.
Its video and audio conferencing is based on the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), a client-server protocol, which is different from the protocol used by Skype. Skype uses a proprietary internet telephony VOIP network called the Skype protocol.
It depends on the global Index P2P protocol of the Joltid Ltd Corporation which is a peer-peer system. While it is widely used today, Skype users find it hard to address problems encountered with the system since there are no phone numbers or email addresses provided for customer support.
