To obtain the best quality of silk, steam is used to boil cacoons hence obtaining the yard which is then twisted. To remove natural gums, the yarn is then degummed, a process that involves boiling yarn with soap and soda ash. Acid is then used to dye the sarees, after which it is dried on bamboo sticks. The pre-loom process follows thereafter with the winding of hank yarn, street sizing and the weaving process begins.
