Difference Between Macaroni and Spaghetti

When it comes to tasty breakfast for children, that get prepared in minutes, pasta rules the world. This is one Italian dish that is popular all over the world, and draws kids to the dining table because of its taste. Pasta is made from wheat dough with eggs added, sometimes. Different shapes are made out of this dough and are famous with different names. Among many types of pastas are macaroni and spaghetti, and despite both being made of the same dough, there are differences between the two dishes that will be highlighted in this article.

Macaroni

The legend has it that Marco Polo, the legendary traveler, went on a voyage, and when he returned 24 years later, he had many new things to show to the people of Venice. Macaroni is believed to be one of the things he brought to Italy from China. However, there is no evidence to corroborate the story. Macaroni today is slightly curved tubular pasta, 3-5 inches in length made with drum wheat. It is made with machines and sold commercially, though it is possible to make macaroni noodles at home. In US, the very common type of macaroni is the elbow type, though in Italy many more shapes are found.

Spaghetti

Spaghetti is another famous type of pasta originated from Italy. It is thin and long in size, in comparison to macaroni that is thick and short. Spaghetti is also cylindrical like macaroni, and traditionally it is 20 inches in length. However, because of convenience of packing shorter versions have been introduced into the market. Spaghetti lends itself to be made into many types of pasta dishes: from spaghetti with cheese, garlic, and pepper, also to spaghetti full of tomato, meat and sauces.

What is the difference between Macaroni and Spaghetti?

· Macaroni and spaghetti are different names for the shapes that are made out of the same dough made of wheat flour and water, with eggs occasionally.

· Macaroni are short and thick with a tubular shape (cylindrical actually) with length being 3-5 inches

· Spaghetti looks more like Chinese noodles as they are thin and long (almost 20 inches)

· Both categorize under the same food pasta.

· Both are cooked by boiling.
