The latest version of MeeGo is MeeGo 1.2 and it was released in May, 2011. The new MeeGo 1.2 is intended to provide excellent support for creating software for a large number of devices. Furthermore, reference kernels are provided for platforms like Intel Atom and ARM v7. MeeGo 1.2 also provides a QML application framework and QT mobility APIs. It also provides improved capabilities for connectivity including HSPA, SIM Tool kit, etc. In addition to that, it provides several updates to the UX releases and the MeeGo SDK such as the In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) UX, Netbook UX 1.2 and Tablet Developer Preview, etc. Windows 7, Windows XP, Ubuntu 10.04, Ubuntu 10.10, Deora 13 and Deora 14 are supported by MeeGo SDK version 1.2. Furthermore, it plans to support Ubuntu 11.04, Fedora 15 and Mac OS in the future.

Symbian is a mobile operating system that is maintained by Nokia. It supports ARM and X86 platforms. Symbian mainly targets smartphones. The latest version of Symbian is symbian 3 and it was released in October, 2010. Some of the smartphones that use the symbian 3 OS are Nokia N8, Nokia C6-01, Nokia E7-00, Nokia C7-00,Nokia E6 and Nokia X7. It was claimed that symbian 3 was designed as a next generation platform for smartphones. The new features introduced by Symbian 3 include improvements to the UI, a new 2D and 3D graphics architecture and external display support using HDMI. Symbian 3 allowed up to 3 home screens that are customizable and single tap menus. It also provided the Symbian 3 SDK.
What is the difference between MeeGo 1.2 and Symbian 3?
MeeGo 1.2 and Symbian 3 are both mobile operating systems. MeeGo is an open source product, while Symbian 3 is developed by Nokia. While, MeeGo targets a wide range of devices such as media phones, netbooks, handheld computing devices, etc, Sysmbian mainly targets only smartphones.
