Nintendo DS Lite and Nintendo DSi XL are two versions of Nintendo DS series game consoles. There are no two words about it; Nintendo DS is by far world’s best selling gaming consoles beating the next best Sony PSP by a hefty margin. While DS Lite is the slimmer and sleeker version of DS, DSi XL is the bigger avatar of DSi, which happens to be third in the DS series. Nintendo DS Lite vs. Nintendo DSi XL
Nintendo DS Lite has a dual screen and Gameplay with a microphone along with Wi-Fi multiplayer capabilities. The system allows the user to play all GameBoy Advance titles. Despite all these added features in a console that is sleeker and slimmer, DSi Lite is priced same as DS. Of the two screens, the bottom one is a touch screen allowing the user to use a stylus or fingers to move the characters in a game. As the name suggests, screen in DS Lite stands at 3.0” and is 39% smaller and 21% lighter than DS. DS Lite has a battery life of just 5 hours in comparison to 6 hr 45 min of DS.
In comparison, the LCD screen of Nintendo DSi XL stands at a whopping 4.2”, which is 93% more than DS Lite. This makes it a giant in comparison to DS Lite. DSi XL uses a 1050mAH battery while DS Lite makes use of 1000mAH battery. The size of the stylus has also increased. While it is only 87.5 mm in DS Lite, the size of the pen in DSi XL is 120.3 mm, which is a boon for those having long fingers. While there are no cameras in DSi Lite, there are two in DSi XL.
While Nintendo DS Lite is GBA compatible, Nintendo DSi XL is not, which is frustrating for the gamers. There is no facility of music playback in DS Lite, while one can listen to stored music on DSi XL. While DS Lite is compact and handy, one needs to carry DSi XL in a bag which is a problem for game lovers.
