Difference Between Nokia N8 and Sony Ericsson Satio

Nokia N8 vs Sony Ericsson Satio

When comparing the Nokia N8 to the Sony Ericsson Satio, there is no doubt that the main focus is the substantial cameras of the two. So let’s get right to it and see what the differences between these two are. Although both phones are equipped with 12 megapixel cameras, the N8 takes the cake with better looking photos. This is due in part to the excellent lenses employed by Nokia and the bigger sensor size of 1/1.83′ compared to the reportedly 1/1.25′ sensor on the Satio. A bigger sensor with the same resolution means that each pixel is bigger and can absorb more light, resulting in a better overall image. The N8 also wins over the Satio when it comes to video recording. The N8 can record 720p HD quality video while the Satio can only manage WVGA (800×480).

Going to the rest of the phone, the OS is the next biggest difference. Both phones have the Symbian operating system with the Satio having the S60 5th Edition. But the N8 features Symbian^3 (in fact it is the first to do so), which is a completely different OS from the older S60. The N8 benefits from optimized operation and native implementations while the Satio benefits from a greater number of apps; although it is widely expected that Symbian programmers would flock to the Symbian^3.

The screens of the two phones are of the same size and have the same resolution. But adding to the list of what the N8 does better; Nokia has chosen to go with the better AMOLED display rather than with an LCD. The advantages of having an AMOLED display include more vibrant colors, lower power consumption, and better readability under strong sunlight.

There are still many differences between the two and the N8 wins over the Satio on most of them. The N8 is equipped with 16GB of internal memory and has a microSD card slot for expansion while the Satio is fully reliant on its card slot with a paltry 128 MB of storage. The N8 also has a more elegant look and feel with the use of anodized aluminum for its body compared to the plastic composite on the Satio.
