Oceans are the largest and biggest bodies of water on the entire planet, while beaches are just landforms. As compared to a beach, there are apparently more numbers of plants and animals living in the ocean.
Oceans have a fixed blue color texture, while one of the beaches depends on the type of rock that is washed towards the shore. There are majorly five oceans on the planet -Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Southern Ocean, and the arctic ocean.
Ocean vs Beach
The main difference between ocean and beach is that oceans are huge water bodies that cover most part of the planet while beaches are just a part of that water body. Oceans are immense in their size. In fact, they are the only one that continues the stretch of water to the entire Earth. Beach is basically where any water bodies, including the ocean, end, and the drylands, begin.
Oceans are the biggest water bodies on the entire planet, while Beaches, on the other hand, are just landforms. The size of the ocean is so big that it covers about 70% of the Earth’s rea. They support a huge amount of marine life because of their vast size. The ocean is actually one large water body that is further divided into five major parts: pacific ocean, Indian ocean, arctic ocean, southern ocean, and Atlantic ocean.
Beaches are the landforms that are formed with part of the shorelines of several water bodies. Beaches are comparatively smaller in size and cover a lot lesser area as they are part of an ocean and support competitively lesser marine life. There is no particular place or region for beaches. They are found in different regions with different features all around the world.
Comparison Table Between Ocean and Beach
Parameters of Comparison | Ocean | Beach |
Meaning | Oceans are the biggest form of water bodies on the planet. | Beaches are the landforms that are formed from several different water bodies. |
Color | The color of the ocean is not white nor it is blue, it is rather slightly blue. | The color of the beach depends on the type of rock that is washed towards the shore. |
Plants and animals | Significantly, there are a lot more plants and animals in oceans. | As compared to the oceans, the number of plants and animals is quite low on the beaches. |
Coverage | The size of the ocean is so big that it covers about 70% of the Earth’s rea. | Beaches are comparatively smaller in their size and cover a very small area and that too in a particular region. |
Examples | Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, Atlantic Ocean. | Copacabana, Waikiki. |
What is Ocean?
Oceans are the largest and immensely sized water bodies on the planet. They are so huge that they cover about 70% of the Earth’s area. To make it more understandable, they are divided into five smaller oceanic bodies named- Atlantic, pacific, India, southern and arctic oceans, but actually, Earth has one huge water body. The names are just given for territorial use. Now, these all five individual oceans are further divided into seas with smaller areas.
Apart from being so immense in the area, oceans are also very deep, in fact, more than 3000 meters deep on average. And because of the amount of salt present in the oceans, they are also very saline. Because of their immense size and deepness, a large number of marine plants and animals live under these deep seas.
Oceans play a vital role in the biosphere, not just being vast in their size. They help in regulating the change in climate and even patterns of the wind. And most importantly, they are the ones that influence the rainfall that is experienced by the entire planet.
