Difference Between OEF and OIF

OEF vs OIF

War is something that we know is not the solution to any problem. For hundreds of years, countries have fought each other for their own selfish reasons and for the other half of defending their freedom. Most of these battles are extremely expensive which costs millions to trillions of dollars as the operation every single day is very costly. As such, not only money is wasted and lost but also precious lives of the innocent people and hardworking soldiers. In the end, humanity itself is being defeated.

During 2001 and 2003, the USA declared war against Afghanistan and Iraq respectively. In the battles of the U.S. for these wars, the U.S. combat forces used slogans for their operations which are abbreviated as OEF and OIF. What are the differences between the two?

“OEF” stands for “Operation Enduring Freedom” while “OIF” stands for “Operation Iraqi Freedom.” OEF was named for Afghanistan while OIF was named for Iraq. OEF was named for Afghanistan in the fight against terrorism particularly the Al-Qaeda group lead by Osama bin Laden who is dead right now. OIF, on the other hand, was named after Iraq for the goal of the eradication of the weapons of mass destruction and the removal of Saddam Hussein’s regime and others.

The result of the OEF in Afghanistan was the killing of Osama bin Laden and the overthrowing of the Taliban regime while the result of the OIF was the successful overthrowing of Saddam Hussein and the weapons of mass destruction. Saddam Hussein was killed by the rebellious group and army in his own country.

While the OIF was concentrated in Iraq, the OEF, on the other hand, has smaller operations in other countries to combat global terrorism such as the Philippines, Somalia, Ethiopia, Kyrgyzstan, Caribbean, and Central America, and the trans Sahara area.
