Petrol Cars vs Diesel Cars
Choosing the right car is quite important as you are usually stuck with the vehicle you choose for the next few years. One of the main considerations is choosing between a petrol car and a diesel car. The main difference between the petrol car and diesel car is efficiency. The diesel car achieves greater efficiency than the petrol car because it has much higher compression rates. Coupled with the increased efficiency, however, is the higher price of diesel compared to petrol. So if you will be using your vehicle frequently, you should consider getting a petrol car.
Another major difference between petrol cars and diesel cars is reliability. Because diesel engines are meant to operate at much higher pressures, all their parts are made to be sturdier to withstand great stresses. The diesel car also doesn’t have an electrical ignition system which can be another point of failure in a petrol car;especially the spark plugs which foul-up over time.
There is another advantage for diesel cars for people who are looking at alternative fuels. Diesel engines were originally designed to run on mineral oil. As such, modern diesel engines can work with processed biodiesels, like those obtained from cooking oil, without any modification. This is not possible with petrol cars due to their low compression pressure.
Another difference between petrol cars and diesel cars is inherent to the fuel itself and not on the car. Diesel is not as flammable as petrol and is far less likely to cause an explosion in case you get into an accident and the fuel tank gets damaged.
The main reason why not all people choose diesel cars over petrol cars is the cost. Due to the sturdiness of the engine and other factors, the price difference is often quite significant. You also cannot make up this cost with any savings in maintenance and fuel especially if you are a constant traveler. If you do not really rack up the miles that quickly, it may make more sense to get the cheaper petrol car.
Summary:
1.Diesel cars get better mileage than petrol cars.
2.Diesel is more expensive than petrol.
3.Diesel cars are more reliable than petrol cars.
4.Diesel cars work with biodiesel without modifications while petrol cars cannot.
5.Diesel cars are safer than petrol cars.
6.Diesel cars tend to cost more than petrol cars.
