Powershot and Coolpix are two consumer camera brands from two of the giants in the camera industry. PowerShot is a product of Canon cameras whereas the Coolpix series is a product of Nikon cameras. Both of these cameras have a considerable share in the consumer market. Most of these cameras are point and shoot cameras, but some are prosumer cameras.
PowerShot Cameras
Canon’s trademark PowerShot line is one of the highest selling cameras around the world. The PowerShot series was initiated in 1996. It currently consists of seven different sub types. The PowerShot A series is a budget camera series with easy to use point and shoot and prosumer (professional – consumer) cameras. The D series is a waterproof, shock resistant, and freeze resistant series which is designed for adventure travelers. The E series consists of design oriented budget cameras. The G series cameras have advances features and are considered flagship cameras. The S/SD series, which is also known as digital ELPH, Digital IXUS and IXY Digital, is ultra-compact cameras that carry the theme performance and style. The S/SX series is famous for ultra-zoom or mega-zoom cameras. The S series was initially started as a compact point and shoot cameras, but later evolved to be a series that is a bit beneath the G series. The 600 series, Pro series, and the TX series were discontinued from production.
Coolpix Cameras
Coolpix is one of the best-selling camera lines produced by the camera giant Nikon. Nikon cameras are preferred by a lot of users and Coolpix is their consumer camera line. This mostly consists of point and shoot cameras and some professional – consumer models. The Coolpix camera line was initiated by Nikon in the year 1997 with the Coolpix 100 which was introduced to the market in January. The Nikon Coolpix camera line currently has four main lines of production. These are the All Weather Series, Life Series, Performance Series, and the Style Series. The All Weather Series, which is identified by the naming system AWxxx, is a series with rugged digital cameras that can operate in almost any weather condition. The Life series identified by Lxxx is a series of digital cameras that are designed to meet daily requirements of a typical user. The Performance series identified by Pxxx is a line of digital cameras that are high performance and sometimes can be considered as prosumer cameras. The Style series is a line of digital cameras with a stylish outlook a bit and offer typical performance.
