It is the principal ingredient in making pesto and adds more flavor and freshness into salads, pizza, pasta, and many other dishes. Other cuisines such as Indonesian, Thai, and Vietnamese also use basil quite a lot.

Tulsi is another type of basil that is also known as Ocimum sanctum and is different from sweet basil. Tulsi is widely used in Tamilian cuisine and Aryuvedic medicines, which is mostly practiced in the Southeastern part of Asia. Basil provides many health benefits as herbal medicine and essential oil.
