Samsung is ranked as the No.1 Smartphone provider in the world and it is keen on keeping that position intact. For this reason, Samsung is constantly improving their phones by adding cutting edge features and designing and redefining their mobiles. As a part of that development process, they have the concept of internal competition and determine the preference of the customer through that. The introduction of the Samsung Captivate Glide is one such incident in the long list of internal rivals. Although Captivate Glide is introduced after Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket, the specification itself does not beat that of Skyrocket. It is rather the design they have redefined. Captivate comes with a 1GHz NvidiaTegra 2 AP2OH dual core processor while Skyrocket features a state of the art 1.5GHz Qualcomm APQ8060 (Snapdragon S3) dual core processor. It is imminent that there would be a visible performance gap between these two devices, but Captivate Glide introduces a QWERTY keyboard, which is a valuable addition for business personnel. Let’s look at the finer details of these two smartphones, to get a broader understanding.
Samsung Captivate Glide
Samsung Glide comes with the common Samsung style with smooth edges and expensive looks. Its exact dimensions are not yet known, but we can expect a slightly thicker phone that is of the same size as Samsung Galaxy S II. Samsung Glide is said to have a 4.0 inches Super AMOLED Capacitive touchscreen made out of scratch resistant Gorilla glass, with a pixel density of 233ppi and a resolution of 480×800. Samsung has also included a Gyro sensor in Glide along with the Accelerometer sensor and Proximity sensor for auto screen turn-off. It comes with a 1GHz NvidiaTegra 2 AP2OH dual core processor boosted with a 1GB RAM and a 1GB ROM. Even though, this is not the best processor in Samsung family, it’s high end when it comes to Smartphones market. Android v2.3.5 Gingerbread is said to be the OS in Glide, but it is only fair to expect a quick update to v4.0 IceCreamSandwich.
Samsung Glide is said to have 8GB internal storage while providing the option to expand using a microSD card up to 32GB. It will get full use of 4G infrastructure from AT&T with super-fast browsing speeds of 21Mbps HSDPA and 5.76Mbps HSUPA. The ability to appear as a Wi-Fi device and a hotspot is courtesy of the high-end WLAN Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. Since it also has Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP and a 1.3MP front camera, video chat would be a compelling option for the end user. Samsung hasn’t forgotten to follow up with its usual 8MP camera with autofocus, touch focus, face and smile detection and LED flash that can record 1080p HD videos @ 30 frames per second. It also has the Geo-tagging functionality enabled taking advantage of A-GPS support available in Glide. It comes preloaded with normal Google applications such as Google Search, Gmail, Google Talk, YouTube client, Picasa Integration as well as Calendar. It also has Adobe flash support. Samsung Glide has active noise cancellation with dedicated mic, SNS integration as well as a HDMI port which enables the direct connectivity for generic display outputs like LCD monitors and HD TVs. With the launch of Google Wallet, more and more Android phones come with the Near Field Communication, so it is no surprise that Samsung has decided to include that in Captivate Glide. The information about the battery capacity and talking time is still not available, but we can safely assume that Glide would indicate a talking time of 6-7h looking at current smartphones of the same size launched by Samsung.
Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket
As the name suggests, Samsung has released the next version of its legendary Android smartphone Galaxy. Skyrocket has the same look and feel of the previous members of the family and almost the same dimensions of 129.8 x 68.8 x 9.5mm. Samsung has made sure to keep the level of comfort intact while making Skyrocket even thinner. The battery cover of the Skyrocket is ultra-smooth, though, which makes it prone to slip through the fingers. It has a 4.5 inches gigantic Super AMOLED Plus Capacitive touchscreen, featuring a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels with a relatively low pixel density of 207ppi. However Super AMOLED Plus display is very bright with vibrant colors. Skyrocket has a 1.5GHz Qualcomm APQ8060 (Snapdragon S3) dual core processor, which is the best one can have in the current market. As predicted, the performance is boosted by the 1GB RAM and storage of 16GB which can be expanded using a microSD card.
Skyrocket comes with an 8MP camera following members of the Galaxy family and it can record 1080p HD videos @30 frames per second. It also promotes the video chat with the 2MP front camera along with Bluetooth v3.0 HS for ease of use. Galaxy II showcases the new Android v2.3.5 Gingerbread which is promising while it is capable to enjoy the LTE network of AT&T for fast internet access using built in Android browser with HTML5 and flash support. It also comes with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n enabling it to access the Wi-Fi networks as well as act as a Wi-Fi hotspot. Samsung hasn’t forgotten A-GPS support together with the unmatchable Google maps support enabling the phone to be a powerful GPS device. It also supports Geo-tagging feature for the camera. Like most of the smartphones nowadays, it comes with an active noise cancellation with dedicated mic, microUSB v2.0 for fast data transfer, and Near Field Communication support and 1080p playback of videos. Samsung also introduces a Gyroscope sensor for Skyrocket which is a new feature for Galaxy family. Samsung Galaxy Skyrocket promises a 7h of talk time with 1850mAh battery which is brilliant compared to its screen size.
