Both devices are the company’s latest smart devices and they both come with hardware configurations. Let us take a closer look at both devices and see clearly what they offer and how they compare.
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Review – Features and Specifications
The Mobile World congress was the place where the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and its sibling Galaxy S7 were introduced to the world. Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is one of the most elegant devices that have been introduced by Samsung in the recent past. The smart device looks great and the curves on the device make the phone feel comfortable in the hand. The Size of the display is 5.5 inches, which is larger when compared with its predecessor. The Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge are to be released into the market on the 11 th of March this year.
Design
When the device is compared with the iPhone 6S Plus, there is a noticeable difference. Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge can be said to be the better designed of the two. The phone has also been designed to be dust and water proof. The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has curves on the front and the rear of the device is just like the Samsung Note 5 and the Samsung S6 Edge models. The only issue with the body is the presence of a glass back which is delicate and attracts a lot of fingerprints.
Display
The display comes with a stunning curved design and is equipped with a few more tricks. The new Edge comes with additional space and the developers have the option to make apps that support the Edge display. As mentioned earlier, the size of the display is 5.5 inches and is able to support quad HD. The display is also able to produce vibrant colors and comes with great viewing angels as well. This could easily be the best screen available on a smart phone up-to-date due to the technological advancement which makes it brighter than its predecessor. The screen is powered by super AMOLED technology which is capable of producing vivid, vibrant but sometimes over saturated colors. The colors produced by the screen are accurate and bright while the viewing angles of the display are also top notch.
The display comes with a unique feature known as Always On Display which displays time, appointments, and notifications on the display without unlocking the phone. This feature is believed to consume only one percentage per hour, saving a lot of battery life in the process.
The curved screen on the device has trouble with reflection when it is exposed to bright light. But the functionality of the Edge display has increased and the width has doubled when compared with the previous edition. Developers now have the option to make creative apps so that they could make use of space on the edge display.
Processor
The processor that powers the device is Snapdragon 820 or the Exynos 8 processor depending on the region it is to be released. This enables the phone to perform really fast.
Storage
The storage is supported by a micro SD card, which was missing in its predecessor.
Camera
The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge comes with a rear facing camera that is able to support a resolution of 12 MP, which make the photos captured by the device brighter by many folds. The aperture of the lens is f 1.7 and the device also comes with a super-fast autofocus for the quick and clear shots that are needed in today’s world. The camera does not poke out of the device but sits flush with the glass. Its predecessor has a rear camera resolution of 16 MP, which has been reduced to 12 MP with the device of this edition. The camera is also powered by dual pixel technology that helps to achieve brighter photos. The front-facing camera of the device has a resolution of 5MP, which will be great for selfies.
Memory
The memory on the device is 4GB, which is ample space for multitasking as well as for graphic intense games.
Operating System
The Android Marshmallow operating system is expected to be capable of turning the microSD card, which is an expandable option, into an internal option. If the micro SD card is chosen to be class ten or higher, it could be expected to perform really fast on the data transfer. Touch Wiz will be the user interface and has features like Doze, which comes with the latest operating system and will enable the battery to last for a longer period of time.
Battery Life
The battery capacity of the device is 3600mAh. And supports fast and wireless charging. The battery is not user removable although.
Huawei Mate 8 Review – Features and Specifications
After crafting the Nexus 6P, Huawei got a reputation for crafting quality phones. The latest Huawei flagship device is the Huawei Mate 8 which is a different beast, to say the least. This smartphone is a lovely device, and it has been crafted in an immaculate way. The only problem that seems to be in the device is the software part. The hardware of the device seems impressive.
Design
The device is larger than many other devices out there, but it is a comfort to hold in the hand. The thickness of the device is very small at only 7.3 mm. The design of the Huawei Mate 8 is elegant and would be even ideal for the next Nexus device to be released. From a design point of view, the Huawei’s design will sit head on with Apple and Samsung. Because such a unique design coupled with high-end hardware is too expensive, many manufacturers will concentrate on the software rather than these.
Display
The screen size of the device is 6 inches, and the resolution of the device is 1080p. The bezels which hold the screen are very thin.
Processor
Rather than going for a Snapdragon processor as with many Android smartphone devices, Huawei Mate 8 uses an octa-core Kirin 950 processor which comes with four cortex A72 and four cortex A53 CPU processors. The graphics are powered by ARM Mali T880 graphics processor unit.
Storage
The built-in storage on the device is 128 GB, which can be further expanded with the help of a micro SD card.
Camera
The camera sensor on the device is supposedly made by Sony, which can be expected to produce quality images. The colors produced by the device are almost accurate, but there is a problem with the clarity on the photos that were captured. This issue will be more evident in low light.
Memory
The memory that comes with the device is 4GB. The RAM type used on the device is LPDDR 4. The memory and the total hardware ensure that the device does not deal with any type of lag or slowdown while operating applications and performing multitasking operations.
Operating System
Although the hardware is top notch, the software part of the device is what is letting it down by many means. Although the Android Marshmallow may be considered the perfect platform, the Emotions User Interface falls short of a great user experience for the user. Although the user interface comes with a load of unique and new ideas, as a whole, it is a bit of a disappointment.
Battery Life
The battery on the device comes with a capacity of 4000mAh.
Additional/ Special Features
The Huawei Mate 8 comes with a fast and accurate fingerprint scanner like the one which is found with the Google Nexus 6P. The size of the sensor is also the same size as that one found on the Google Nexus 6P. Although many other Android-powered phones are struggling with their fingerprint scanners, the Huawei Mate 8 stays strong in this department. One of the main disappointments on the device is the lack of a USB Type-C port that would have been useful for fast charging and fast data transfer rates.
There is a new feature on the phone which is known as Knuckle Sense that enables the user to capture a screenshot of the screen with a double tap with the Knuckle, and the user can also capture a portion of the screen by drawing a circle with the knuckle as well. When double tapping the screen with two knuckles, the device is able to start a screen record as well.
What is the difference between Samsung Galaxy and Huawei Mate 8?
Design
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: The dimensions of the device stand at 150.9 x 72.6 x 7.7 mm and the weight of the same is 157 g. The body has been designed using glass and metal. The fingerprint feature only requires touch to authenticate the user. The device is also dust and water resistant. The colors that the device comes in are Black, Gray, White, and Gold.
Huawei Mate 8: The dimensions of the device stand at 157.1 x 80.6 x 7.9 mm and the weight of the same is 185 g. The body has been designed using metal. The fingerprint feature only requires touch to authenticate the user. The colors that the device comes in are Black, Gray, White and Gold.
The Huawei mate 8 is a larger and heavier device making the Samsung Galaxy S7 the more portable device. The glass and metal design used on the body make the Samsung a more premium and well-designed device, not to say the Huawei is far behind on this aspect. Another Advantage of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is its ability to be water and dust resistant making it the most durable device of the two.
Display
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge comes with the size of 5.5 inches and has a resolution of 1440 × 2560. The pixel density of the display is 534 ppi and the display technology that powers the panel is Super AMOLED display. The screen to body ratio of the device is 76.09 %.

Although it may seem as if the Huawei mate 8 camera is the better camera of the two, the resolution only affects the detail of the image. The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has been designed in such a way that it could perform well and produce brighter images in low light conditions. Key elements like aperture and sensor size were fine tuned to achieve this feat.
Hardware
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is powered by Exynos 8 Octa and comes with octa cores that are capable of clocking speeds of up to 2.3 GHz. The Graphics department is powered by ARM Mali-T880MP14, and the memory that comes with the device is 4GB.
