Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc vs Xperia Play
Sony Ericsson is the arm of Sony that designs and manufactures phones. Given that Sony also produces gaming consoles like the Playstation and Playstation Portable, it was just a matter of time before they create a device that merges gaming and mobile communications together. The main result of that is the Xperia Play, which was unveiled along with the Xperia Arc. Obviously, the main difference between the Xperia Arc and Xperia Play is the latter’s emphasis on gaming.
The most obvious clue to this is the inclusion of a dedicated game pad that is configured pretty much like what you get on the PSP Go. This is unique to the Xperia Play as of now as all other slider phones have keyboards. Because of the inclusion of the game pad, the Xperia Play is roughly twice as thick as the Xperia Arc, and heavier by almost half. The screen of the Xperia Play is also not as big as that of the Xperia Arc, but by just a fifth of an inch. Its screen is still bigger than most smartphones on the market today.
Specifically for the Xperia Play, Sony has optimized a number of the original Playstation’s games. With at least 50 games to choose from, and hopefully more over time, this gives old timers a bit of nostalgia and younger gamers a chance to play old favorites.
There are also some differences between the Xperia Play and Xperia Arc when it comes to their cameras. For starters, the Xperia Play camera has a lower sensor resolution compared to the Xperia Arc. Since the two cameras probably have the same components, we can expect the Xperia Arc to produce better pictures than the Xperia Play. What the Xperia Play has over the Xperia Arc is a front facing camera, which can be used for video calling. Sadly, the feature has been limited to WiFi connections only and not over 3G.
