SS7
SS7 (Signaling System 7) is a signaling protocol in traditional PSTN network used in call setups and teardowns. It’s a set of signaling protocols defining call setups, call control, passing network status, and call teardowns. Signaling, monitors from start of the call to the end and generates the CDR (Call Detail Record) with necessary parameters. Basically Signaling does negotiation, call establishment and call disconnection.
SS7 is referred as C7 in European Countries (some times No 7 Signaling) and in North America CCSS7 (Common Channel Signaling System 7).
SS8
SS8 is a company name or you can even call it as brand name for a highly sophisticated communication interception and forensic system. Basically SS8’s solution helps telecom operators to enforce the law as well as to facilitate real time call interception by State Intelligence or Police in circuit switching and packet switching networks. Basically not only for telecom, it could be used to monitor emails, chat sessions, SMS and web surfing or any other services.
SS8 is one of the leaders in communication interception and forensics market facilitating providers to operate inline with law enforcements by government. Basically these product bridges the Telecommunication companies and Intelligence Agencies around the world.
Difference Between SS7 and SS8 (1) SS7 is a signaling system used to PSTN Network whereas SS8 is a company providing legal interception products for operators. (2) SS7 handles call setup, call control and call teardown whereas SS8 does call capture and monitoring for Intelligence Agencies without affecting the SS7 or any other signaling or media interruptions. (3) SS7 is essential for an operator to operate but SS8 depends on the local law enforcement authorities of the countries. |
