TIA vs Stroke
One of the most common diseases on this planet is related to cardiovascular disease. Every year, millions of people are being affected either dying from it or just being diagnosed as having it. We cannot change the fact that this is common because our lifestyle now permits us to having it mostly for those who are situated in the city. People lack exercise. They eat fast food. Their work permits them to sit all day in front of their computers. In short, this era has become a sedentary lifestyle in most settings.
Two cardiovascular diseases that shall be tackled are TIA and stroke. Strokes are really prevalent in the world while TIAs occur less frequently.
TIA, or transient ischemic attack, is a temporary loss of blood flow in the brain. This is not a disease but rather a short incident that can happen to anyone. TIAs can occur for only a few minutes, and then the client will regain his or her consciousness. But in some cases it can occur for up to 24 hours. Therefore, it is just temporary. Strokes, on the other hand, are a debilitating incident in which there is permanent damage to the blood vessels that supply the oxygen and blood flow to the brain. Strokes are also known as brain attacks. In this incident, the person is at risk of dying if there is massive brain damage due to a lack of blood flow.
Classical signs of stroke include: disorientation to time and place, assymetrical face, and slurring of speech. When these signs are evident, one must already bring that person to the nearest hospital for treatment. For a TIA, due to the temporary cessation of blood flow in the brain, the person experiences a temporary loss of consciousness, dizziness, difficulty in walking, and loss of balance and coordination. The client still has good vital signs such as breathing or respiration as well as pulse.
There are lots of causes of stroke including smoking, obesity, having diabetes mellitus, lack of exercise, high blood pressure or hypertension, high cholesterol and triglycerides, and a lot more. If a stroke is not treated, it can lead to death or paralysis on one side of the body, inability to talk, facial dropping with the paralyzed side affected.
Interventions for stroke include: thrombolytic drugs to dissolve the clot in the brain vessels, anti-hypertensive drugs, anti-lipidemic drugs to lower cholesterol just to name a few. One of the interventions for TIA is by not blocking the client’s airway and allowing the client to breathe. TIAs are also known as a mini-stroke or transient stroke.
Summary:
1.TIA is also known as transient attack or mini-stroke while a stroke is also known as a brain attack.
2.TIAs are less serious compared to a stroke.
3.TIAs are temporary while strokes have permanent brain vessel damage and occlusion.
4.TIAs can be treated with adequate oxygen therapy while a stroke is treated with different medications.
