Tri-Cyclen vs Tri-Cyclen Lo
Contraception is one of the ways of preventing pregnancy. Oftentimes, various devices, drugs, agents, sexual practices, or surgical procedures are used just to prevent pregnancy. All of these help women plan if and when they want to bear a child and to practice proper birth control. There are two types of contraceptives: the Ortho Tri-Cyclen and the Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo.
Types of Contraceptives
The first type of contraceptive is what they call the Ortho Tri-Cyclen. Its combination is made up of female hormones which are ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate; they prevent ovulation. It is a medication that triggers changes in a woman’s cervical mucus and uterine lining which makes it harder for a sperm to reach the woman’s uterus. As a result, it also becomes harder for the fertilized egg to attach to the uterus. However, if it is your first time using the pills, you will need to use back-up methods such as condoms or spermicide. As compared to the Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo, the Ortho Tri-Cyclen has a higher dose of estrogen. Also, this pill has received FDA approval to help treat moderate acne in females who are age 15.
Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo refers to another kind of contraceptive that works the same way as the Ortho Tri-Cycle. This contraceptive is also made up of female hormones which are ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate. Its functions are the same as the Ortho Tri-Cyclen. The only difference is that the Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo has lower amount of estrogen and this pill is not FDA approved to help fight acne. However, researchers suggest that lower estrogen pills like this are usually effective in the treatment of acne.
Safety Precautions
While it is nice to practice birth control, you should still be careful because these can have dangerous side effects such as heart and liver diseases, untreated and uncontrolled high blood pressure, blood clots, severe migraine headaches and unusual vaginal bleeding. Both of these contraceptives carry these side effects so make sure that you know when and when not to take these contraceptives. These pills are 92-99.7% effective. Eight out of a hundred women will become pregnant during the first year of usage. But with perfect use, less than one in a hundred will become pregnant. Essentially, the pills work the same way so there really is no difference between the two.
Before anything else, make sure that you consult your doctor. You should take exactly what your doctor says because you will be risking your own body. Birth control pills should not be taken if you are already pregnant. Also, it is said that if you have recently had a baby, you should wait at least four weeks before you take the Ortho Tri-Cyclen, same with the Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. Once you take a pill, you should be consistent because once you miss one, it will increase your risk of becoming pregnant. Also, be careful that you don’t overdose. Symptoms of overdose include nausea, vomiting, and vaginal bleeding.
