White Rice vs Brown Rice
White and brown rice have many differences. First of all it is the husk that gives the two varieties of rice its distinguished names. The brown rice gets its name from its natural brown husk and the white from its white nature after it has been polished.
White rice is polished rice. For making white rice, the bran is removed from the grain. It is further polished to make it white and smooth. But in brown rice, the outer layers remain intact.
When looking at the difference between white rice and brown rice, the white rice cooks faster than the brown ones. If brown rice has to be cooked faster, it should have to be soaked in water for some hours. The cooked white rice is also fluffier than the brown ones.
Well, another advantage with white rice is that it can be stored for longer periods than the brown variety. It is because all the fats contained in the outer coat are removed in white rice. Unlike brown rice, white rice can also be stored at any unfavourable conditions. On the other hand brown rice should have to be refrigerated and should be eaten within six months.
Coming to the quality, brown rice is known to have more nutrition than the white rice. Brown rice comes with more food value than the white rice. The brown husk contains more vitamins, proteins and minerals, which is not found in white rice. While polishing, the vitamins and dietary minerals get lost. The brown rice can be called as a whole natural grain as all the proteins and minerals are quite intact in it.
Brown rice is also considered to be tastier than white rice. It is chewier than the white variety. Though the two varieties of rice contains almost the same amounts of carbohydrates, proteins and calories, it is in the nutritional content that they differ.
