Difference Between Whole Grain and Cereal

Whole grain and cereals are considered to be healthy foods. They have been scientifically proven to be efficient in reducing the risk of developing heart diseases and suffering from a fatal heart attack and other diseases. But similarity aside, how are these two differing from each other then?

Whole Grain

The germ, bran and endosperm part of the grain is what makes it whole. These different components make up for the reason why whole grain is very healthy. Since the bran comprises the dietary fibers and vitamins needed by the body while the germ carries Vitamin E, phosphorous, zinc and folic acids to name a few. Endosperm on the other hand is rich in protein. The combination of these three makes the whole grain indeed a very nutritious food.

Cereals

Cereals usually only contain the endosperm, thus eliminating the benefits and minerals that can be obtained from the bran and the germ. It has been said that cereals is mainly rich in carbohydrates. Which makes this very effective for reducing weight, however experts often argue that along with weight loss, there is also the fact that one is losing precious vitamins since the other parts are compromised.

Difference between Whole Grain and Cereal

The main difference between the whole grain and cereal are the nutritional content that they have. Whole grain is considered as the healthier option amongst the two. In fact it has been said that regular consumption of this can help eliminate heart disease and even protect the body from possible cancer. Cereal on the other hand is very useful when it comes to someone who is planning to lose weight. There were several discussions about it not being enough to provide the proper nutrition, however it is widely accepted that when one is planning to shed off some pounds it is already given that they may also lose some much needed vitamins and minerals.

They both can provide the much needed nutrition enough to boost the immune system and also to help regulate weight issues. But it all boils down to one’s preference as to what they like best when having their breakfast. Nutrition aside, I guess the most important thing here is to enjoy the experience of eating something healthy and tasty.
