Difference Between Yin and Yang

Yin Vs Yang

Yin and yang are considered to be two universal forces that the Chinese believe for achieving health and a long life. The Chinese believe that the body needs both yin and yang for living a harmonious life. Though these two universal forces are interrelated, they have many differences.

One of the main differences between yin and yang is that the former is considered to be the internal energy and the other is considered to be the physical body. When yin denotes a negative force, yang is believed to be positive.

Yin force is known to create an outward movement. On the other hand, yang denotes inward movement. While yin is considered to be a contracting force, yang denotes expansion.

Yin is the universal force that one cannot see or touch. It is only a force that can be felt or experienced. Yin force is believed to be the origin of yang. It is believed that yang grows and flourishes because of yin. The Chinese believe that when yin weakens, it will be reflected in yang or the body.

When comparing the two universal forces, yin energy is considered to be female, cold and dark. On the contrary, yang energy is male, hot and cold. Earth, evil, rain, small, are considered to be yin. On the other hand, heaven, good, odd and large is yang.

It is also said that yang energy tends towards the center and yin moves to the periphery. While yang force is considered to be solid, yin is broken.

Another difference between yin and yang is seen in assigning names. Yang means a place on the south slope of a hill/mountain or a place on the north side of a river. Yin means a place on the south side of a hill/ mountain or a place on the south side of a river.
