Claritin is a trade name of the generic drug Loratadine. It is manufactured by Schering-Plough with varying trade names, one of which is Claritin. Zyrtec is also a trade name, and its generic name is Cetirizine. Another trade name of Zyrtec is Reactine.

Claritin and Zyrtec are both second-generation antihistamines used for the treatment of allergies. In 2008, Zyrtec topped the list of the highest grossing product under the non-food category in the USA. It generated more than $315.9 million. Zyrtec is said to be more frequently purchased than Claritin.

Claritin is available in many forms of tablets and for different age groups. There is Claritin tablets for children six years and older and for adults. There is Claritin D 24 hours for children 12 years old. Plus, for the adults, Claritin Reditab 12 hours for adults and children six years and older. And, lastly, there is the Claritin Liquigel for adults and children six years and older. Zyrtec, on the other hand, is not only available in tablet form but also in chewable tablets and in eye drops form for those who have teary and itchy eyes.

Claritin is indicated for runny nose, itchy nose, sneezing, watery eyes, itching of the throat, sinus decongestion, and nasal decongestion. Zyrtec has the same indications as Claritin.

Whatever kind of allergy it is, it still is best to treat it before it gets worse and hinders our productivity. It only takes a tablet to treat and ease every burden brought on by the allergies we experience sometimes.
