Pyroxene vs Amphibole
Crystals are basically forms of minerals that have the elements, atoms, molecules and ions in a structured pattern. Crystallography is the study of crystals wherein crystallographers use microscopes and other materials to study the different forms of crystals. Thus, crystals nowadays are of different structures as well, and they are used to serve different purposes. Some use crystals for decorations while some find their purpose in healing. Healing crystals are the most trending as of these days because studies show that the energy of crystals can maximize a person’s capability. Nevertheless, crystals are very useful.
The dark crystals
Amphiboles and pyroxenes are similar in general characteristics and chemical compositions. These two crystals are known as dark crystals because the light defines the formations of these crystals. Indeed, the light has a great impact on how these minerals are created. Thus, amphiboles are a group of crystals that can be yellow, transparent, white, blue or brown. It composes of inosilicate forms. Its general structure is a needlelike, found mostly in metamorphic rocks. Geologists often find this crystal very interesting since it is made of double chained silica, tetrahedral SiO4 with metal and hydroxyl ions. This is what sets amphiboles apart from the pyroxenes. Pyroxenes only have one silica and are only single chained. However, both the mineral groups crystallize in prisms.
It has been noted that most amphibolites are used for the construction of buildings in both interior and exterior. Amphibolites are somewhat hard to polish because of their hard structure. Nevertheless, because of that characteristic, it is a great material to establish a firm infrastructure.
On the other note, pyroxenes are mostly used as an ornamental stone or in lithium salts and glasses. Both have different uses but they are indeed very handy. These dark crystals are class minerals, they might be hard to find but they really do serve their purposes.
How are Crystals Represented?
Not many people actually know the real use of crystals. Most misconceptions about crystals are that they are used for jewelry. Thus, people have no idea that they are used for many things, as well, rather than that. Crystals are often represented as a thing that one should be proud of. It is a decoration and a beautiful one. It has also been represented in the famous movie Superman as a thing that a superhero gets to be weak around. Kryptonite, just like any other crystals, is formed in a repetitive metamorphic activity by rocks. Hence, in the movie, they have not given too much emphasis on rather the different formations that Kryptonite can be formed. However, they have given at least a background of what raw crystals look like.
Crystals are often represented as great designs for most architectural designs as well. Most extravagant hotels mostly design crystal-like forms in their lobbies, and although they might not be real, but they are breathtaking. Truly, crystals are more than what people are oriented about, but with enough background and basic studies about it, one would know that it is a great process that God has gifted the world.
