Rubber shoes, athletic shoes, sneakers, trainers, gym shoes … these are just a few of the interchangeable shoes that we should choose to wear when we think of doing anything athletic, strenuous, or something that is full of activity. Did you know, though, that the terms sneakers and trainers actually denote different types of athletic shoes? They do. So it is just as important for you to know what the difference between a pair of sneakers is from a pair of trainers.
For starters, it is already assumed that you are well aware that both pairs of shoes, both types, use rubber as soles for these types of shoes. So how is a pair of sneakers different from a pair of trainers? If you do a little research on the internet, you would actually find various input on what sneakers are for, what it may look like, the material used, and how you would be able to differentiate one from another pair of athletic shoes.
What are sneakers?
Sneakers originated from the US in the late 1800s, but Keds, a popular company to date, was the first to mass produce the canvass-top sneaker in 1917. The term came about when it was used to refer to a pair of shoes which made the wearer stealthily walk in any place without any noise at all, hence, to ‘sneak’ in, unnoticed. The British came up with the ‘Plimsoll,’ which is the British equivalent of the term ‘sneaker.’ Like any athletic shoes, this type of footwear is made with a flexible sole, made of rubber or any synthetic material, and the upper part is made of canvas.
What are trainers?
So now that we have given you a definite description to picture a pair of sneakers, a pair of trainers are, essentially, the slang version of the term training shoes. From the term itself, you can easily distinguish the type of athletic shoes that would fit this category. This is why whether you think of running, aerobics, weight-lifting, and many more activities, that certain look that would befit trainers would fall into this category.
What is the difference between trainers and sneakers?
Essentially it is the look that would differentiate one over the other. A canvas-topped athletic shoe will be classified as a pair of sneakers and anything that would be designed more to the specific sport or activity would be classified as trainers. If you see runners, you would notice that the design of their ‘rubber shoes’ or athletic shoes would be more focused on improving the performance of the individual wearing them. Sneakers are considered to be more fashionable. The price range for either athletic shoe would also vary, as trainers are designed to be more apt to the purpose of such shoes, rather than its look and physical design.

Sneakers are more popularly worn by teen-agers, and more commonly used as part of one’s attire seen in malls and other areas as such. Trainers are more commonly seen in areas that focus on a specific activity, like the gym, running track, aerobics class, and so on.
Sneakers are more focused on the physical aspect, its looks, more so that the support that should be given to the feet by the person wearing.
Properly selecting the type of trainers is important. When you know what type of shoes to purchase, whether you plan to wear this for walking or malling, or should you decide to do any certain type of exercise or activity, it is important that you purchase from a shop that would have not just a wide array to choose from, but a person who would be able to help you out in choosing the right pair of shoes for your feet.
